Form a testable statement guided by theories that makes a specific prediction about relationship b/n variables: choose research method that is appropriate to test the hypothesis, collect data. Can use an experiment (scientific tool used to measure the effect of one variable on another: analyze data. Note any specific trends or relationships that the research has revealed. Ultimately leads to the decision to accept or reject the original hypothesis: report the findings. Goal is to publish articles in scholarly journals.
