How evolutionary bio has relevance with the psychological sciences. Biology is the science of life, so psych is obviously a bio science. Your sister, a scientist,or a good trustworthy friend. Adaptations: biological traits that help an indiv to survive and reproduce in a habitat (for a specific survival or reproductive skill- make an organism better suited for its environment) Selective attn, memory encoding, memory retrieval- considered adaptive functions) Cognitive psychologists are also adaptationists: break down large cognitive processes into adaptive problems or tasks and then look for adaptations that solve those problems. Natural selection: the differential survival and reproduction of organisms as a result of heritable differences between them. 3 essential components: individual differences- variation, differential reproduction- some will have more offspring than others, heritability- genetic adaptation (gets passed down through genes) Blue fish- camouflaged red fish- more visible to predators (get eaten more)
