Are iq tests valid and reliable: two parameters that determine how good a test is are validity and reliability. If tests are all over the place not a good test: test retest reliability r"s = 0. 65 to 0. 80, just a correlation between test (time 1) and retest (time 2) Measured iq"s of over 1000 children born in new zealand in 1970s. Their iq"s were first measured when they were 7 yo and were measured every 2 years. For any 2 years, 10% of these participants iq"s were changed by as much as the s. d. (i. e. huge (moving around s. d. ) If iq"s were going down, then there was some sort of bad life situation (emotional blow, financial blow) factor that upset the children and normally it bounces right back when the situations get better. Sometimes, it goes up a little too high, maybe because of the extra-good stuff that"s happening for the kid.
