Thomas and chess classifications fail to describe about 35% of babies. More modern system is based on the "big five" adult personality traits. These traits explain adult personality, they exist on continua. Allows to explain a lot more than a classification system. Move often and vigorously approach things (easy baby) Move towards to new things with a smile (easy baby) Respond with fear or withdrawal when you come across new people/objects (slow-to-warm-up baby) The ability to stay focused, manage attention & effort.
