PSYCH 2AP3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Intellectual Disability, Frontal Lobe, Brainstem
Document Summary
People who do not have asd think about this video as a social interaction. People who have asd see it as an inanimate, objective thing. If presented with actual social videos, this effect prevails. People with asd, unlike normally developed people, do not follow the eyes of individuals to determine what social interactions are going on, but may focus instead on objects in the background. This sign shows up very early in life. Very early intervention (social contact, training in social cues) may be able to lower severity or even eliminate risk of autism symptoms later in life. May not be so physically based as previously thought. Systematizers: identifying, understanding rules that govern a system. Empathizers: recognizing and responding to the feelings of others. Recognizing, understanding, interpreting feelings of others, receptive to social cues. Autism is an extreme case of the systematizing brain, which is the route of every major symptom of autism.
