Lack of reciprocal conversation - dif culty in responding to others based on what they"ve just said or done. Reduced sharing of interests, emotions, affect - often in their own world. Poorly integrated verbal, nonverbal communication - tone, gestures. Lack of facial expressions and nonverbal communication. Dif culty adjusting behaviour to social context - similar to kids with adhd by blurting out answers, not taking turns, talking over kids. Dif culty sharing imagination play, making friends - very literal people; cannot imagine the world is other than it literally is; dif culty making friends due to this; socially inept. Total absence of interests in peers - no interest in making friends or sharing toys; may also not care about parents as well, no distress when they leave or excitement when they return (this is for high severity) Dsm-5 diagnostic criteria: restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour.
