An idiographic perspective -- not about generalizing individuals, but rather to understand those particular individuals as individuals. Avoid reductionism - you can"t reduce personalities to small pieces. There are no units, thoughts, behaviors etc whose understanding could help us describe the whole individual, rather we need to understand the individual as a whole. They do believe in general truths, but are more focused on individuality. The primary study of psychology should be the experiencing person. That means the focus is on the idea that each of us experiences life differently, we need to understand the experiences of personhood for every person: choice, creativity and self-realization are the concerns of the humanistic psychologist.
