Attributions help us easily decide why people are doing what they are doing, thinking what they are doing. Tendency to explains others behaviour in terms of their disposition, ignoring their situation. Bias we believe others behaviours correspond with their personalities. Misunderstanding other people behaviours, missing out on opportunities for yourself. Impression formation- get the impression someone is a certain way by simply watching them behave, without considering other factors like their situation. Ex. seeing someone trip and assume they are clumsy. Not recognizing that what they are doing is happening within a context. Participants exposed to essay they were told fred wrote (another student) Iv: condition under which fred wrote essay - prov vs. anti castro. Except: like castro if pro castro, anti castro if anti. Found: gap between idk and real rating is evidence of attributing error. Most people will come up with a judgment about someone, even if were wrong, we don"t like being uncertain.
