Document Summary

Psychology is the scientific study of how people"s affect, behaviour and cognitions are influenced by the presence, real or imaged, of at least one other person. 3 main aspects of psychology: social thinking. Forming impressions and making decisions: social influence. The effect of internal and external forces: social relations. The effect of relationships and group ties. It"s one"s interpretation of a situation and it influences that individual. We think we know the objective truth (but we don"t realize that there are more influences that we can think of), and we assume others do to. It"s a mechanism by which construal goes about. Would rather distort reality than lose esteem: social cognition approach. We often only have partial or inaccurate information so we rely on heuristics aka fast & frugal mental rules. These two do not always coincide, they can conflict.
