Lecture 39 - amnesia sometimes we know the source of our familiarity sometimes, we only have familiarity and not the source sometimes we misattribute a feeling of familiarity to the wrong source. 2-3 days later: shown mug shots of people who had supposedly taken part (non had actually taken part) Modal memory: carved memory up into three components (sensory, wm and ltm) Why are there all these dichotomies: working memory / ltm, perceptual / conceptual, recognition / recall, automatic / controlled, unconscious conscious, implicit / explicit, procedural / declarative. *double dissociations* idea that some people can have good intact one type of memory, and bad other type (ex: good implicit memory, bad explicit memory in some types of amnesia) But this does not mean our memory system is entirely and completely separate / distinct. Particular memory type operations are governed by different mechanisms. Within explicit / declarative categories there exists: semantic (knowing) / episodic (remembering)
