PSYCH 3AC3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Latte, Prison Sex, Libido
Document Summary
Men are easier to study because their behaviour is stable and predictable, whereas women have high erotic plasticity. Scientists are trying to describe a group of people on the average day. It is much easier to do this when they have constant behavioural tendencies. Research on men"s sexual orientation is much more deeply conducted than on women, because they switch their behaviour so often. Erotic plasticity has importance on how we understand men and women"s sexuality. Women"s sexuality is more malleable and responds more to cultural influences. Three predictions: more intraindividual variation in sexual histories for women than for men. Each woman"s sexuality should shift around a lot more than any given man"s (e. g. sex drive or sexual interest: larger response to specific sociocultural factors by women than by men. E. g. in the sexual revolution of the seventies, there was a sense of freeing one"s sexuality.
