Meaningfulness (one of the b value in maslow) Purpose: connection of presents to future events. Goals: desired objective future states (are evaluable) Fulfillment: cannot be objectively evaluated, desired subjective future states. Sense of efficacy: control over events, action. Self worth: related to self esteem, self awareness, self knowledge. Values: moral, ethical grounds for action, rules govern our behaviours. If four needs are met, life will be insufficiently meaningful. Service to others: our greatest satisfaction is in doing for others. Self transcendence (different people find meanings in different areas) Show positive affect, greater general life satisfaction. Higher level of swb are predicted by greater: intimacy/relationships religion/spirituality. Achievement and power: show higher level of negative affect. Intrinsic is mostly religious, extrinsic is mostly power and achievement. Higher level of swb for intrinsic goals: e. g. service for others. Extrinsic goals (money, success, attractiveness): positively related to negative affect (depression, anxiety) and negatively related to positive affect (self actualization)
