We share a common ancestry with bonobos and chimpanzees. We split off from them 5-7 million years ago. We share 98% of our dna with bonobos. Bonobos: peacemakers, and the females have the power. One activity is central: sex (maybe why they are so peaceful) Democratic republic of the congo is their homeland. The animals were caught in the crossfire and hunted. The bonobos may have existed here for 2 million years. Intelligent, highly social, develop friendships, emotional awareness. An extended childhood (nursed for 5 years) which provides a crucial time to understand about the world. Frances white and her researchers pioneered the work on bonobos at lomako. Chimps are easier to study because they live in africa in larger numbers, and are more exciting because of their aggressive nature (dominance is key among males) In womba researchers found that when different groups of bonobos meet, the males become excited and form a front bank.
