Theyre in charge, this is the females often share food with eahcother, it"s a way of bonding. On a very frequent basis: bonobos have sex thru most of their cycle even when theres no chance of getting preggo. Whereas chimps mate mainly during fertile times: bonobos have a gentle nature of sex. But in chimp societies its very aggressive to compete for mating- they kill eahcothers offspring. And they have sex to have kids: bonosb never commit infanticide bc they all have sex with eahcother- and frequently and so no male in the group knows whos child is his. Could be due to: chimps have less food avail, and what food there is dominant males get first. Food rich habitat, they have more food avail on the ground. So they disperse and don"t have chance to form bonds with eahcother: but bonobo envi has easier access to food so females can eat tg and form bonds.
