Informal versus formal social control: formal social control response by the criminal justice system, when you have broken the law, therefore criminal justice responds to that behaviour, informal social control invisible, very strong. We don"t break the law because we care about what society thinks of us and we don"t want them to think poorly of us. Responses and sanctions received by family, friends, etc. , prevent you from misbehaving. Care about what others think about us, therefore unwilling to break the law because of this. For example: standing in a long line up, waiting to pay for something. He was tired of seeing women coming in with self-induced abortions. Many of these abortions caused severe injury and ultimately death.
