Objectives: introducing classical perspectives of society: symbolic interactionist approach. Review the basic tenets of the si approach. Review: functionalism different cultural objects contribute to the smooth running of society in the functionalist perspective. In addition explore how culture re ects the social world: con ict theory the base consists of economic elements and the superstructure consists of cultural elements within con ict theory. In addition explore how culture re ects the social world. Symbolic interactionism: si differs from the other two perspectives covered: Functionalists and the critical perspective are interested in the groups that compose whereas si is interested in an individual level of analysis. Also explores how the social world is produced through actions: they want to understand how subjective meanings and micro-interactions compose society. The meanings are never wholly individual but are formed in the interactions with one another: symbolic interactionism: Interaction = meaning is accomplished through interactions with others.
