Module 2: the nature of social science research. As you read all of chapters 1 and 2 from the course textbook, pay particular attention to the following key terms, which are essential for a complete understanding of the material: A quality or feature that is regarded as a characteristic of someone or something. A proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further research/investigation. Micro: focuses on the individual and their subjectivity, rather than focusing on the structures of society thought to be external and constraining on the individual. Macro: a form of analysis which focuses on the structure of society and provides a way of seeing society as a unified whole the process of translating abstract concepts into variables, turning a broad idea into a researchable hypothesis. Inductive: indicates that theories can arise from the collection and analysis of data.
