Document Summary
In the hallway there was a bowl of candy. Two conditions: big bowl of candy and a mirror facing the kid, no mirror, just a bowl of candy. Both conditions: the adult goes to get a phone call, only take one piece. The one w/out the mirror b/c they can"t see themselves. We are more self conscious when we have a mirror in front of us, which makes us more likely perform actions that meet the standards set out by society. Two selves: active and impulsive self and reflexive self. The self is created from the outside in. Our thoughts are about who we are, and our perceptions of our social identities and personal qualities. The ability to recognize ourselves as an individual as separate from everything around you --> lets us examine who we are. All the things that we think we know about ourselves. You can see this in what they focus on.
