Document Summary

Social psychology: self and identity (continued from last lesson) As part of the experiment the children were brought into a home for trick or treating. In group the children were given a candy from a big bowl of candy. Before they go away they say don"t take anymore candy! in the other group the same thing happens, but there was a mirror in the hallway so the children could see themselves. Answer: the group without the mirror is more likely to disobey the order. You can explain this because it"s more realistic. This is an example of what happens when we become self aware or more self conscious. In this case the mirror made them more self aware. Then there is the reflexive self, which considers the actions from the self of others. This goes with symbolic interactionist theory. the self is created from the outwards in, we are created by the society and cannot be immersed without social interaction.
