Definition: the systematic study if the nature and causes of human social behavior (delamater) Shaped by other external forces, to social norms in certain settings. What makes a person good/bad: evil acts arise out of the context someone is in, e. g. Could change certain aspects to change it from 95% to 20% people doing it (scientist vs average joe telling you what to do, the proximity to victim, the socialness) In the right context, 66. 5% of people will do it. Key idea: socpsy"s are skeptical of personal experience as a mean to understand social behavior, we need a systematic measure/observation to understand, recognized the power of the situation, e. g. the social roles we play, the situation we"re in. Slide 10: impact of one persons behavior based on another persons beliefs, how often do we obey authority, power of a group, team sport, clubs; they socializing us, have norms surrounding it.
