Document Summary

They would not be stereotypes if they were not at least parially true. Propagate a way of thinking that says you are not you. At their most accurate they are trivial bits of data, that are thought to mean more than they do. Things we think and say something about those groups. If they are meaningful you like understanding certain people, you think it correct to understand the individual in relaion to the group you can idenify. If they are useless you don"t think or care how generalizaions apply to individual people, you are interested in thinking about people you actually know. Disincion: role = stereotype that is true and we believe should be true. We will thus sacriice the unique to it the role. Latest stereotype: we are all free, emancipated, independent, strong women. Think of messages enforcing the new image of woman today. Throughout we think the roles and stereotypes imposed upon us, were good and/or accurate.
