SOCWORK 2B03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Structural Adjustment, Social Inequality, The Stuff
Document Summary
Social welfare: system of interventions and constructs that support the well-being of people. How we talk about, understand and talk about social issues. Social policy: speci c course of action chosen within framework of social welfare. Social programs: delivery mechanism of social policies (non-pro t and public org) You"ll see incoherence in the three things when remnants of a previous government are leftover, maybe the social policies don"t line up with the current goals/ideas. Most ppl interact with the social programs + also where many social workers are working. Social welfare state has a direct relationship with these programs. The difference in the political perspectices is how involved ppl feel the government should be in people"s lives. Ppl should be responsible for living their life. Except for things like infrastructure / safety (military/corrections) Limited gov"t role in day to day life. They do talk about supporting families and older people. Older people are doing better today than 10-15 years ago.
