Dominating group/nation"s subjugation of the other is justified through a set of beliefs often based upon nations of racial, cultural, religious superiority. In other words, it assumes the inferiority of the colonized. Imperialism: not talking about settlers; a policy of extending a country"s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Postcolonialism: theoretical lens that examines and contests the cultural and social legacy of colonialism. The post does imply a temporarl dimension: we live in a (largely) postcolonial world. Process of othering and it"s effects on black subjectivity. For not only must the black man be black, he must be black in relation to the white man. about subjectivity; he realized that he was discriminated against because he was amidst white people.
