Listening is a highly important form of communication. There are many elements which create barriers to effective listening. Hearing and listening are two different things. Listening takes time, requires patient and effort, there is also a need to practice being present and mindful with the people you are listening to. Who we are and what we value effects what we pay attention to. There are a number of behaviours which interfere with our ability to be present and attentive and there are just as many reasons we are vulnerable to engaging in these behaviours.
