o In August 1958, Arkansas Governor Orval Fabus passed a law allowing him to close
public schools to avoid integration, so in Sept 1958 he shut down all public high schools
i Little Rok, Arkasas for the etire ear. This is ko as The Lost Year.

prejudice

▪ Supreme court ruled that school segregation was unconstitutional
▪ What would be the effect of this large-scale social experiment?
• Would be able to measure prejudice (before and after segregation)

o Most increased in prejudice
▪ In practical terms (prejudice) was ineffective for the first little bit
o The slim 15% that decreased in prejudie proal opleted Allport’s laudr list of
items needed to reduce prejudice
