Document Summary
Upper limb muscles (reading materials: chapter 11: pages 291-305, 324-327; chapter 22: pages 582-583, 595- Note: to understand the primary function of a muscle you need to understand where the muscle is coming from (origin) and where it is going to (insertion). Muscles that attach the pectoral girdle to the axial skeleton (these muscles also move the scapula): extrinsic shoulder muscles: Pectoralis minor: coming form ribs 3,4,5, going to coracoid process of scapula, medial rotation of scapula, pull process down and forward. Serratus anterior: serrated origin from upper 8 ribs, follows contours of ribs from front to back. Ends at the anterior boarder of scapula: scapula comes forward (protracted) Posterior: trapezius: move head and neck, originates from occipital bone, ends at t12, huge muscle, fibers are oriented in different direction. Multiple insertion points inserts onto clavicle and acromion inserts onto spine: retract scapula, raise shoulders, depress shoulders.
