Document Summary

Central nervous system: brain (reading material: chapter 16: pages 406-428; chapter 22: pages 585-586,594) Brain itself is made up of 2 sections. Telencephalon (outer brain); the largest part of brain. Longitudinal cerebral fissure; separates the two hemispheres: sagittal fissure because it"s on the sagittal plane. Cerebral cortex; surface is covered with elevated ridges. Actually referring to grey matter covering on the outside. Made up of neuronal cell bodies, basic structural, functional unit of cns. Not a whole lot of it, and to make up for it is the structure. All of the convolution and gyri, effectively triples the sa of the grey matter. Accounts for around 40 percent of whole mass of brain. Gyri (us=singular): twisters and bumps; each gyrus is separated by the grooves: precentral gyrus (motor cortex) ; borders central sulcus, postcentral gyrus (sensory cortex) ; borders central sulcus. Sulci (us=singular): furrows, grooves, similar location in everyone.
