ANAT 315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Extensor Carpi Ulnaris Muscle, Flexor Carpi Radialis Muscle, Flexor Carpi Ulnaris Muscle
Document Summary
Originate from lateral epicondyle and supracondylar ridge = Extend the wrist innervated by the radial nerve. Runs straight down the lateral side of the forearm. Inserts on the styloid process of the radius. Acts on the elbow joint and flexes it. Extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis. Lay on top of each other and longus is more superficial. Longus inserts on the base of the second metacarpal. Brevis inserts on the base of the third metacarpal. Extend and abduct the wrist (need flexor carpi radialis for adduction) Inserts using the flat tendons on distal phalanges of the fingers. Flat tendons are called common extensor hoods or expansions. Run along the back of each finer and all extensor tendons insert on them. Pass under the extensor retinaculum -> connective tissue on the back of the wrist from the ulna to the radius and from the ulna to lateral carpal bones long extensor tendon metacarpal.
