Document Summary

Recognition: a consequence of specific protein protein interactions. If a protein has transmembrane domains, it will be incorporated while it is being synthesized. If it does not have er retention (another postal code that tells it to stay there), then it is vesicle transported to the golgi. As soon as two proteins recognize each other there is always conformation by both of the proteins generally speaking. Semiautonomous organelles make some of their own proteins but most are sorted post- translationally. Some peroxisomal proteins are post translationally sorted. Example above, protein destined for mitochondrial matrix. Because it has to get it to go through a pore it keeps it unfolded to do that it recruits chaperones which bind to the proteins as it enters the matrix. Once the protein is where it should be the chaperones are released and the proteins folds. Serious diseases are related to proteins going to the wrong place.
