Natives of peru and bolivia chewed the leaves of the coca tree for thousands of years. Sigmund freud advocated using cocaine to treat depression and chronic fatigue (and used himself!) Cocaine became the main stimulant drug used in tonics/elixirs (coca-cola as we know it today) Cocaine hydrochloride - powder, can be heated and injected. Inhaled (b/c water insoluble forms a vapour when heated) Signi cant consequences to higher dose (e. g. , abuse, dependence & toxicity) Occurs from all sites of administration (intranasal, inhalation & iv) inhalation and iv almost immediate, intranasal not as fast.
