In spite of the bad news and events destroying the planet, there is still hope. To arrive at where we want to be we have to take account of where we came from and what we are. We are like no other organism on the planet. Science can"t do as much as arts and humanity can to show us how we are living our lives. Our genetic ancestry and social learning environment produce out motivations and the way we think and behave. Our ability to live the kinds of lives they have reason to value- shaped by freedom and access (ecosystem services) The politicians, scientists, businesses and media typically says that our current state of civilization is okay. Natural resources are used to create materials and fuels in use. From there emissions allow for waste in the environment: have to make sure we don"t run out of natural resources and that that the wastes do not become too much.
