Document Summary
Early 7th c. marked clear separation between burial areas and residential areas. Cremation replaces inhumation with very few adult inhumations found. Female burials can no longer be identified, as they were in previous eras: tells us that male and female burials must now have shared common elements. Cremation tomb and trench for offerings ( opferrinne ) Offerings were burnt in trenches and then covered: these trenches were long and ran next to multiple burials, so they were used for more than one burial. On top, there were frequently vases, craters, and incense burners found. Remains of offering ditches were covered by a tumulus. It results in mounds that covered the offerings and, on top of the mounds, there were gravestones or grave markers (like craters) Bodies were laid on top of grape leaves, which indicates a connection to dionysus. Made of bricks covered with mud and plaster. This is then put over a cremation grave.
