Week four the medium is the message. Discussed the meaning behind the medium is the message : ie. texting, impersonal. Advertisers spend over 600 billion dollars per year on ads. Both parents were unsuccessful; he lived with his mother & brother, then lived in a labour house, then mother fell ill (mental) He had comedic success in western london. In his 20s, he had leading roles in comedies. 1913: he was in a major motion picture. 1913-1919: he went from bit-player to consistently successful performer. He achieved complete financial & artistic control. Even after sound came out, he created a movie with only effects & music. He is very intelligent, but stubborn, innocent idealist: he wanted to be more than a commercial filmmaker.
