French set a parliament system that gives power to the chrisians over other majoriies (muslims: seemingly democraic, also make it impossible for muslims to have a majority in the parliament, leads to instability. 1948 palesinian refugees lee to lebanon: setle in lebanese camps, were not allowed to absorb into the lebanese community, kept in poverty oppressed populaion.
