Document Summary
Some of the problems with the way technology has been used culturally for those portrayals of minority groups, and some of the ways in which those issues have been redressed through the ethnographic practice. Broadly construed, ethnography is about the documentation of other cultures. Can allows us to question some default assumptions we have about how we live, and not simply about the way in which others live. He was engaging in a process called salvage ethnography he went there to document a culture that he thought had already disappeared and to re-create it for posterity. Salvage ethnography postulates a binary between the modernity of western europe and north. America (ethnically white society that has always progressed and where progress is seen as good) and indigenous cultures/foreign/other cultures were looked upon as flies caught in amber. Unchanging in time, and when they do change, it"s a bad thing.
