Document Summary

By the accumulation and consolidation of sediments. May be clastic origin, chemical or biochemical. Clastic are solid particles transported by wind, water e. t. c. Chemical are dissolved ions precipitated from solution. Sedimentary rock make up about 5% of the earth"s crust, however 75% of exposed rocks are sedimentary. Sedimentary rocks are the rocks that show previous life on earth. Sedimentary rocks are classified in three groups. Note: clay is both a particle size and a mineral group. Conglomerate is a rounded rock - gravel sized. Breccia is an angular rock - gravel sized. Pores and voids exhist in sedimentary rock. Sometimes water is found in those pores, or oil. Chrystalle material precipitated later by groundwater and may include calcite, silica or iron oxide. Sand is between 1/16 mm and 2mm in size. Both clay and silt are called mud. Particle sorting: particlesthat are well sorted are all about the same size but may be all sand, all gravel e. t. c.
