It is clear that the other children do not know of her assigned gender. Sex assignment- what is presented to the doctor at birth is then used to identify them and label them. There is an increasingly urgent call for doctors to not perform srs on intersex children as it becomes an increasingly visible problem. What does her passing mean and what does the narrator mean when it is stated (cid:498)i had a sex change once (cid:499) How is this assigning of sex any different from what the child"s parent does to her child? in violence, abuse, death passing is not decided or chosen by the individual in question. Understanding the weight of this term is important to the severity of the results of failing to pass. Passing/failure- we must know that failing to pass as a transgender person can often result. Passing is socially determined by a series of judgements, actions, behaviours, etc.
