Civilization was in mesoamerica (mexico, guatemala, el salvador, honduras, and nicaragua). Was a vast and complex territorial empire because of the different ethnicities. Nahuatl was the common language and tenochtitlan was the capital. 1325: the mexica took refuge on tenochtitlan. They then settled in the middle of mexico. 1428, the mexica became the aztecs because of the war-like culture. Appropriated the gods of other groups, creating a hierarchy where aztec gods were on top. Translated into their social hierarchies and cultural beliefs (huitzilopochtli, god of war and the sun; Tlaloc, the rain god; & quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god. A. as predestined to conquer the others, who were coined as inferior and weak. Aztec history was written as one that favored the mexica. The mexica were born out of a cave of northern mexico who migrated and prevailed in. They viewed themselves as being at the center of the universe.
