Mexicoa was able to weather the storm thorugh repression and timely reform led by their one party state (pre) and rode the wave of public opinion. Mexico did have small revolutionary groups and a small student revolutionaries. Allende was overthrown, palace was bombed by military. Found with a machine gun in his hands. Debate on how big a role the us played in overthrowing the government. Chile, (cid:1005)(cid:1013)3(cid:1004)"s chile had achieved a fairly well functioning democracy, working institutions, and fair elections. Chile had a strong organized working class, communist and socialist parties, not new parties inspired revolution but long standing party. Socialists usually got 20%, communists 10-15%, and by 1970 chile had 10 years of being caught in a 3-way political race. The conservative national party supported by business men and traditional people (religious, more conservatives). A third of the pop was in favor of socialist communist parties.
