It is hard to know where to start on a topic like climate change and public health. It doesn"t take too much reading of the scientific literature or popular interpretations of it to realize that we are in deep trouble as a species. In 1992, the uniconference on environment and development, otherwise known as the earth summit, organized by. Macy and johnstone"s message is aligned with something that mahatma gandhi once said: daring to believe it is possible. It is very important that you do it. Let"s turn to the health effects of climate change : they can be grouped into 6 categories, extreme weather events, changing patterns of disease and mortality, food security, water and sanitation, shelter & human settlements, population and migration. The frequency and intensity of extreme meteorological events, such as heat waves, cold waves, floods, droughts and windstorms, have already increased and are expected to increase further.
