KNPE 255 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Ovarian Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease
Document Summary
Sitting time and mortality from all causes, cardiovascular disease and cancer: Adjusted for confounders and found that there was a progressively higher risk of mortality across higher levels of sitting from all causes and cvd but not cancer. Similar results obtained when stratified for sex, age, smoking status, bmi. Dose-response relation bw sitting time and mortality from all causes and cvd independent of leisure time pa. In addition to promoting moderate to vigorous pa and healthy weight, should discourage sitting for long period of time. Cumulative survival for people who sat almost none of the time was significantly higher than those who sat almost all the time for all-cause mortality (+ive association for all-cause and cvd but not cancer) Even within physically active people, there is a strong association between sitting and risk of mortality. Suggests that high amounts of sitting cannot be compensated for occasional leisure time pa even if it exceeds minimum pa recommendations.
