Document Summary

Distinguish between subconscious processes, non conscious processes, and mindlessness. Subconscious processes allow us to handle more info and perform more complex tasks (automatic routines performed w/o thinking, originally they may have required more thought). Non conscious processes are outside of mental consciousness and are not available to conscious awareness, for example trying a long time to find a solution, give- up and then have a solution pop into your head. Intuition has many stages of mental processes, clues in the problem automatically activate memories/knowledge, patterns start to emerge. Non conscious thought leads us to hunches and gut feelings and eventually becomes conscious thought where we can see a probable solution. Mindlessness is when we aren"t thinking very hard, doing things out of habit, and not really analyzing what we are doing. Define and distinguish between concepts, propositions, mental images, and cognitive schemas. Concepts are mental categories that group objects, relations, activities, abstractions or qualities having common properties.
