Social globalizaion: stretching" of social relaions across the world. In each case, there are a) claims about causes and drivers, and b) claims about consequences and implicaions, and c) value judgements about acion. Borders were more porous, with higher levels of transnaional immigraion. Naion-states sill required to regulate and facilitate internaional trade. Capital seeks best returns wherever they are found. Transnaional corporaions seek to do business in region states" or zones, rather than countries. New communicaion technologies allow consumers to demand products from outside of naion-state. Rise of democraic insituions: centralized power dismantled (kenichi ohmae) Naion states not eroded but reshaped and reconigured". Local cultures maintain their idenity even when interconnected ". Extensity of global networks: social relaions are stretched. Intensity of global interconnectedness: between peoples, insituions and states. Velocity of global lows: speeding up of social life.
