Primary sources: firsthand, original research and publications, contains abstract, introduction, materials, methods (written in first person), Conclusion, references: research can be submitted to a professional journal, scholarly journals: peer-reviewed, intended for professional or academic readers. Not all items in the scholarly journal are scholarly articles: dissertations, conference papers, technical reports, patents. Secondary sources: summaries of research/experiments, source of background info and primary sources (in references, highlight newsworthy stories , o(cid:373)e jour(cid:374)als o(cid:374)l(cid:455) ha(cid:448)e se(cid:272)o(cid:374)dar(cid:455) sour(cid:272)es (cid:894)look for (cid:862)re(cid:448)ie(cid:449)(cid:863)(cid:895, magazines, newspapers, textbooks. Tertiary sources: processes and condenses info from both primary and secondary sources, encyclopedias, textbooks. Anecdotal evidence: tories, o(cid:374)e perso(cid:374)"s e(cid:454)perie(cid:374)(cid:272)e, often works better on an audience than scientific evidence because of personality, relatability. Look for hypothesis testing, sample sizes, controls, statistics, discussions on the limitations of the study, funding agencies (may induce bias) Wet hair causes colds not true! Hot, spicy food and stress cause ulcers also not true: proven by robin warren and barry marshall.
