Primary source/ article: comes first and contains original research that never has been published before, abstract, introduction, materials, and methods, methods section is commonly written in the first person, e. g. , i/we conducted the following experiment. Contains detailed information about the experimental design/ experiments performed: results section contains first formal appearance of experimental results based on the original experiments performed, conclusion/ discussion, reference list. Why is the methods section so important: this detailed info is necessary if other researchers want to repeat the experiments (basis of science) Importance: not that all items in scholarly journals are scholarly articles, peer reviewed journals will also publish opinions (also called editorials), news items, letters to the editor, and book reviews. Popular science magazine, news reports, newspaper articles, internet: biology, science, and the media. Science from secondary sources (newspaper, internet) that are done to sell. News media often highlight science stories that seem newsworthy (attract readers)
