Becoming parents involves lots of legal and/or medical procedures and involvement with social services. Decreasing amount of adoptions in recent decades. Trend towards open families where adoptive and birth families meet. Fewer babies available from abortion, increase in support in acceptance for young, single and teen parents decreasing the amount of children put up for adoption. International adoptions frequently come from countries in extreme poverty or after war/natural disaster. Issues of feeling like a second choice - failure because belief that children are second best and inability to conceive. Secrecy and anonymity create issues for everyone involved. Need time to develop a relationship with adoptive parents. Any issues viewed as fault of the adoption. Give time needed to develop a relationship.
