Language of disability is problematic and othering. Disability is constructed by the social organization of the environment. Rather than thinking of disability as an individual impairment, we should see it as a system of exclusion. Atypical development in cognitive, motor, emotional, and chronic illness areas. Iprc identification, placement and review committee (parents/guardians, teachers, educational specialists, child if over 16, principal, community or other professionals involved) Moderated by when/how parents are told, delayed diagnosis & religious/cultural beliefs. Parental: parents struggle to cope and juggle responsibilities. Marital: strain on marriage since partners may take out frustration on each other or neglect their marriage. Sibling: other siblings have to take on additional tasks leading to strain. Support groups and community resources to develop coping strategies.
