Rather than thinking of disability as an individual impairment, we should see it as a system of exclusion. Atypical development in cognitive, motor, emotional, and chronic illness areas. Iprc identification, placement and review committee (parents/guardians, teachers, educational specialists, child if over 16, principal, community or other professionals involved) Moderated by when/how parents are told, delayed diagnosis & religious/cultural beliefs. Parental: parents struggle to cope and juggle responsibilities. Marital: strain on marriage since partners may take out frustration on each other or neglect their marriage. Sibling: other siblings have to take on additional tasks leading to strain. Support groups and community resources to develop coping strategies.
