Sound is a human auditory sensation, perception and experience of the world. Bodily sensation that occurs when vibrations are picked up by the ear: positivistic definition. Sound is vibratory force in the external world. Vibrations in a material medium and of range of frequencies within and byeond the range of human hearing. Describes sounds in terms of the object or events that cause them: semantic listening. Treats sound as code or a vehicle from which meaning is extracted: reduced listening. Focuses on pure sound (rather than causes of sound or meanings encoded in sound) Timbre (or the structure or envelope of the sound- how suddenly it begins, its duration, how quickly it fades) Or do they compete, interfere or mask each other?) Voice is often linked with identity (or soul or character) I want to tell the story in my own voice . Voice can be a powerful means of persuasion. Used to create common ground with audience.
