CMN279- Lecture/lab/workshop 1 Communication theory Communication: The transmission of meaning from one person to another  For a message to be successful there must be an agreement upon the “intended” meaning Three elements in intrapersonal communication 1. Writer/Sender 2. Reader/Receiver 3. Text/Meaning Understanding the audience, language skills, body language and effectively relaying information are all important in order to communicate on an intrapersonal level. There are five steps for a sender/receiver situation 1. Idea Formation (message formation) a. Understanding what you want to say and structuring your ideas 2. Message Encoding a. Converting your ideas into your language abilities, making not of word choice 3. Message Transmission a. Deciding what medium or channel you would like to use to transmit the message, be it formal letter, journal, memo, oral, etc. 4. Message Decoding a. Learning your weaknesses u
