Social justice: fundamental and core value concerned with resources in society being distributed fairly. Belief that everyone in society has inherent value, and should be guaranteed human rights. It is produced, not decided by chance (think generational abuse, social policies) Increases risk for danger, root cause of other problems people face. Oppression: asymmetrical (unequal) power relations between individuals/groups of people. Can be considered in individual experiences such as sexual assault, bullying (there is domination) Also systematically through society"s beliefs (that women are victim blamed, patriarchy) Equity is when inequalities are evident in social structure; things may be restructured to give those who need it more support. Inequality is a major determinant of health and well being (in america, there is more income.
